Description

Introduction to the Laboratory Bunsen Burner
A Bunsen burner is a device used for heating, burning, and other experimental activities that require a flame or heat, and works with gas (methane, butane, or other natural gases). This device is named after Robert von Bunsen, a German chemist who invented this device with his colleague. The gas inlet is a serrated tube that goes into the gas hose and is designed to hold the hose in place. When installing the hose, make sure that the gas does not leak through it. The gas delivery tube is a vertical tube that usually has a gas control valve at the bottom that can be used to adjust the amount of gas entering the lamp. The air inlet valve is located at the bottom or top of the tube and can be turned to adjust the amount of air entering the tube. The most important advantage of the Bunsen burner is that the amount of air entering the tube can be increased or decreased using the air adjustment valve, thus controlling the temperature by changing the air/gas ratio.
